According to beliefs, in the 13th century, a woodcutter named, Bhatirao Lakhadhara, discovered the Jyotirlinga when his axe hit the tree, the ground started bleeding. The villagers gathered there and offered milk to the tree which stopped the bleeding. The people of the village built a small temple at the site and named it the Bhimashankar Temple. Several notable figures like Chhatrapati Shivaji, Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath, and Raghunath Peshwa also regularly visited the shrine and carried out poojas and renovations. Morning visit Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Temple (30 Kms / 45 Mins). Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling temple is located at the foothill of the mountain "Bramhagiri," where the Holy Ganga River originates (Maharashtra's longest river). The History of the Trimbakeshwar Temple is that it was built-in 1755-1786 AD by Shri. Nanasaheb Peshwa. The word "Trimbak" indicates Trinities (trideva): Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Mahesh. The Temple is made with black stone, and it is bordered with a 20 to 25ft stone wall that gives a prosperous look. In the Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple premises, Kushavarta Tirtha (holy Pond) is 400m away located. It is 21ft deep pond that was built in the year 1750. It is believed that Kushavarta is the place where the holy Ganga River remerges after disappearing at Bramhahgiri hills and thus the superior holiness of the Kushavarta Tirtha. It is said that many events are witnessed in the premises of this sacred place of Trimbakeshwar Shiva temple-like as Lord Rama came at Trimbakeshwar for doing Shraddha of their father Dashrath, Sage Gautama took the dip bath at Kushavarta pond (holy Pond). The Mukhya Dwar (main gate) of the Trimbakeshwar Temple leads us to the visit queue, splitting into 6-7 lines for devotees' convenience. At the beginning of the temple, a prominent Nandi (made of white marble) faces the Shiva linga. Nandi is said to be the Vahana (Vehicle) of Lord Shiva (Shankara). It is believed that if one tells his wish/ desire in the ear of Nandi, then he will convey that wish to Lord Shiva. After the Nandi temple, there is a big (spacious to meditate and worship) hall called "Sabha Mandap," and then "Gabhara" main temple where linga is situated. Return to the hotel for overnight stay. After breakfast, visit the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga Temple. The Omkareshwar Temple is a majestic and striking Jyotirlinga Temple, located on the island of Shivapuri or Mandata on River Narmada. Omkaeswar means Lord of Omkara and the devotees who throng here simply cannot help engulfing themselves in the mystic powers of this very compassionate Lord. Situated on a beautiful riverside, it is a picturesque place, surrounded by exquisite natural beauty which makes it ethereal and divine.

History - There are many legends associated with this temple, the key one being that the Vindyachal mountain range deity decided to worship Lord Shiva with the aim of removing his sins. In order to do thus he created a sacred geometrical diagram and made a lingam from sand and clay for this purpose. Lord Shiva was pleased with him and appeared in front of him as Omkareshwar and Amaleswara – two forms. Another story revolves around King Mandhata, an ancestor to Lord Ram, who was such an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva that he prayed to him immensely. The Lord pleased with his devotion decided to reside in this place in the form of a Jyotirlinga. In another story the gods and the demons faught with one another in which the demons won. The god prayed to Lord Shiva who helped them by a appearing in the form of Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga and defeated the demons. Return to the hotel. Overnight stay at hotel in Indore.

After breakfast check out from the hotel and proceed to visit Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling Temple for Darshan.

History - when did the Mahakala temple first come in existence, is difficult to tell. However, the event may be assigned to the Pre-historic period. Puranas narrate that it was first established by Prajapita Brahma. There is reference to the appointment of prince Kumarasena by king Chanda Pradyota in 6th c. BC for looking after the law and order situations of Mahakala temple. The punch-marked coins of Ujjain, belonging to 4th-3rd c. BC, bear the figure of Lord Siva on them. Mahakala temple is also mentioned in several ancient Indian poetic texts. According to these texts, the temple had been very magnificent and magnanimous. Its foundation and platform were built of stones. The temple rested on the wooden pillars. There had been no sikharas on the temples prior to the Gupta period. The roofs of temples had mostly been flat.Possibly due to this fact, Kalidasa in Raghuvansam described this temple as ‘Niketana’.The palace of the king had been in the vicinity of the temple. In the early part of the Meghadutam (Purva Megha),Kalidasa gives a fascinating description of the Mahakala temple. It appears that this Chandisvara temple might have been a unique example of the then art and architecture. It may be ascertained that how splendid had been the temple of the main Deity of that town which possessed multi-storeyed gold-plated palaces and buildings and the superb artistic grandeur. The temple was enclosed by high ramparts attached with the entry-gates. At twilight the lively rows of glittering lamps enlightened the temple-complex. After the visit return to Indore.
